Turning Life Altering Experiences into Opportunities EP31

Aaron Pang, Transformative Purpose

June 24, 2022

I am humbled and honoured to share my interview with Zach Xu. Zach is the host of Microsoft's Powered by the People, a passionate podcaster and believes that one of the most important things anyone can gain in life is another person’s perspective.

Most of our life-defining moments happen before the age of 35. Our life is never linear and goes through many ups and downs. Losing someone, sickness, getting fired, divorce, if you already had yours, this should resonate. If you haven't had yours yet, don't wait for something to happen. Our time on this planet is a scarce currency.

We have on average, about 60,000 thoughts a day and most of them are negative, recurring self-limiting thoughts. If we aren't aware of our own inner voice, we can easily trap ourselves in a negative spiral.

To set your life on a different path, imagine you have recorded all your daily thoughts in a spreadsheet. On a daily basis, your mind tries to navigate different rows and columns and make sense of the correlations. But wait, what if there is a magic wand? A filter button you can just click which allows you to only see your positive thoughts. All of a sudden, your picture becomes clearer, you realise there is a pattern. You realise there are certain things that you enjoy doing while helping others. You develop habits to reinforce what matters to you. You do little things to overcome inertia. Your health. Your mindset. Your knowledge. A cause that is bigger than yourself. You practise becoming better each day and inspire others around you to become better. You have found your transformative purpose.

Personally I much prefer to be the one asking questions rather than answering questions. :)
