The Future of Blockchain EP11

Yifan He, CEO Red Date Technology

September 6, 2021

I believe in ten years' time, there will be another layer of the internet.

I was surprised when Yifan mentioned he is a gamer and used to enjoy playing World of Warcraft. As I was sitting there listening to his analogy about crypto-trading, it brought back pleasant memories. In the early 2000s, there was a brief period where me and my friends would go to gaming arcades after class in Sydney.

Each of us would sit in our own little cubicle, put on our headphones and play World of Warcraft or Counter-Strike. Quite honestly, I was never good at them. If you know what I am talking about, we are probably around similar age.

Yifan explains blockchain is still in the infant stage and 99% of developers don’t understand the technology. It’s very much like the pre-internet stage where everyone was building their own intranet before it became the internet as we know it. Yifan also dispels a number of myths related to blockchain and how its usage needs to extend beyond crypto-trading in order to drive down the cost of adoption.

When asked about the future of blockchain, Yifan’s prediction is that regardless of geopolitical frictions, good technologies will eventually be adopted when technologies are used accordingly to improve lives. He predicts there will be another layer on top of the Internet in which blockchain could be used to help us connect limitless computers in a secure way.
