Notification summary, Irresistible Contrariness, and negative emotions

1 idea from me, 1 learning from others, and 1 question to ponder

January 27, 2023

Happy Curious Friday! A warm welcome to the first issue of the newsletter.

Here are 1 idea from me, 1 learning from others, and 1 question for you to ponder this week.

1 Idea from Me

Do you get distracted by the notifications on your phone? There is a great tool which you can all use, 'notification summary'. Set up time blocks as to when you want to receive the notifications. I set mine for 8am, noon and 5pm. It gets rid of all the unimportant notifications that are trying to clamour for my attention.

When you see a pop-up that asks for your permission to send you notifications. Ask yourself these questions first:

  1. What will you miss out if you don't turn it on?
  2. Are they important?
  3. Do you need to know about them now?

If your answer is no to all of them, you don't need the notifications.

Irresistible Contrariness

“We resist being told what to do. Direct orders provoke direct opposition. When we give children commands, we’re working against ourselves. We stir up rebellion in their little hearts.”

"How to talk so little kids will listen" by Joanna Faber and Julie King.
